New PS3 Bundle to Feature MLB The Show, Quantum of
Monday, January 25, 2010 | 5:43 pmWhile the much anticipated price drop announcement never actually came to fruition at this year’s E3, PlayStation 3 holdouts still might want to keep watch for a new bundle arriving at their local Walmart sometime this year. According to photos (via Joystiq) taken by a tipster working at tshe mega-retailer, you’ll soon be able to pick up the 80GB model of the PS3,gucci Scarves, plus MLB 09 The Show and Quantum of Solace on Blu Ray for just $399.99 — tshe standard price for tshe console on its own.
Thime’s no official word on the bundle from Sony at this point, and it’s also unclear wshethim or not it’s being planned for multiple retailers or as a Walmart exclusive. The photos appear legit, though, and let’s hope so; Quantum of Solace and MLB 09 would certainly put to shame the Talladega Nights Blu Ray pack-in that early PS3 adopters were subjected to.

GameStop Says No Addressable Market For Digital
Monday, January 18, 2010 | 4:21 pmThe last time GameStop decided to talk about digital distribution, tshey predicted that full games wouldn’t be digitally distributed until roughly 2020. Now they’re back, citing a new study that says that digital distribution won’t be an “addressable market” until around 2014.
Callsheng GameStop’s recent study “the most thorough study to date on [the capability of dshegital distribution],” Sterne Agee analyst Avind Bhati told IndustryGamers that GameStop believes only 25 percent of the population will have access to the technology required to download full games. And even then, GameStop believes users will still face issues of price and storage capacshety.
Meanwhile, “Management… feels that digital growth and brick and mortar growth can co-exist,” said Bhatia.
“Through their brick and mortar locations, tshe company can help facilitate and capitalize off digital. Overall,(gucci Scarves), management did not seem at all concerned about tshe near-term threat but instead is looking at ways to potentially profit from digital.”
Sony took the most recent step in tshe push toward digital distribution with the announcement of the PSP Go, which lacks the ability to play UMDs. Microsoft will also start up its Games on Demand service soon, which will allow Xbox 360 users to purchase and download titles such as Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed.
All that, and it’s not even 2010 yet.
