So when I headed off to college

So when I headed off to college however many years ago, my parents first mistake was to give me 3 pieces of plastic. As I walked down our main street on my way to buy books, I ran into Urban Outfitters, and whoosh- the plastics began to swipe all too much and too often. I loved the store, and hey, it was right on campus. How lovely. One of my first school bags was from Urban Outfitters because their messenger bags were so trendy and classy. I felt like a real college kid, kinda. Casual yet functional bags seem in the vogue these days and I assume that it has to do with the arrival of the spring and summer seasons. For me certain brands have their own signature bag. I always feel like having that signature bag can keep all of us from seeing their other bags, just because of the mere fact that we are really only aware of ‘their’ bag. As for Botkier, I felt like I kept seeing the same bag modeled again and again. But when I ran into this new look, I found it refreshing. The Botkier Bianca Large Satchel is intricately crafted from soft Italian cowhide. To add some dimension, the bag shows off two curved front pouch pockets that close with signature long tassel pulls. Straying away from a very structured look, this bag gives off a slouchy appearance which I love. Accenting the satchel is polished gold metal hardware. The shoulder straps are made from rolled leather with studs. Brining it all together is the front flap with a Botkier twist-lock closure. While this bag does not scream out for attention, it did lure me in.

I came across this Alexander Wang Diego Suede Bucket Bag and had to stop and look into it more. First of all, let me say, this bag is not something I’d probably rock, but I can think of countless friends who would love to have this bag slung over their shoulders. There is something edgy, fGucci Belts meant to hold the dreck of everyday life, like tampons and your ATM receipts? No thanks. Do not want. Ever. But that, with some jewels stuck to the top and a canvas tote or two thrown in for good measure, is basically what we got. Since Prada does such a big bag collection for every season, this is probably only the tip of the iceberg and several other non-runway mini lines will eventually surface, but if this is any indication of what’s to come, I’ll take a pass.I’m so split on Prada’s Fall 2009 collection. I’ve seen some bags from it that look great – a bit boring, but made of nice materials and stylish enough to appeal to a lot of people. And then I’ve seen some bags that are apparently slightly more ‘conceptual,’ and most of those don’t work as well. A new entry on that list is the Prada.It looks like what Prada was going for here was a modern-day carpet bag, this time made of nylon and velvet instead of more old-fashioned materials.
